Constellations At Grand Central

Grand Central constellation

Saw the fab astronomical constellation ceiling at Grand Central Station. This is my kind of place and the beauty of it would make any commuter feel better! Painted in 1912 by Paul Cesar Helleu the sky is in fact illustrated backwards with the stars displaced. Some say it’s all due to the Precession of the Equinoxes – others that it’s a simple mistake. But one thing not in the original celestial scheme of things is the hole just above Pisces where a piece of plaster has been cut out to make way for a missile exhibit in 1957. Whilst Uranus spends its final few days in Pisces I think it’s a graphic representation!
